Fangirls eagerly awaiting Sherlock Season 3

Fangirls form the largest group on tumblr and are part of modern culture everywhere you go. Fangirls are aged 11-18 and have obsessive and creepy love for a celebrity, book or band.

There are three distinct followings of fangirls, music related, Celebrity, and fiction related. Music related fangirls will idolize Justin Bieber, One Direction, Black Veil brides and other various and diverse forms of music.

The Fiction related fangirls will lust after books, TV shows and movies. This group is the largest on Tumblr, seeing as a large majority musical fangirls will stick to other social networks such as facebook.  The fiction fan girls form the fandoms of The Mortal Instruments, Harry Potter, Supernatural ect.

Celebrity fan girls love a specific person or persons such as the Benedict Cumberbatch and Misha Collins. These fangirls are the most likely to spam your dashboard with pictures of the said celebrity or bizarre fanfictions involving Johnlock . Internet celbrities such as Dan Howell or the Yogscast count here, and John Green/Vlogbrothers borderline.

There are many speculations as to why fangirls behave the way they do, not many of them nice. As far as history is concerned, young girls drooling over some young attractive man has been common practice since the middle ages. Science is yet to fund a full on experiment into the phenomenon, but as far as logic is concerned it is probably an inbuilt gene, one of those tiny blobs of DNA that is entirely ignored yet plays such a major part in our world.

Types of PostsEdit

Fangirl posts appear on everyone’s dashboard, no matter what sort of blogger you personally are. Fangirls literally own Tumblr, slowly drawing everyone in one fandom at a time. Types of posts are usually real time. For exa

mple, after the danisnotonfire million subscribers video ( a swarm of screenshots, pictures, cartoons came up, then faded away when the next video was released. The only exception to this culture is the ‘inside jokes’ a fandom will have which comes up randomly in-between major events in the fandom.

The other type of post is the ‘sad memory’ post. There is a large spike of these between seasons and films or after a series is cancelled. One great example being the cancellation of Merlin, where there was a swarm of posts from the fandom weeping over the ending, and posts from other fandoms in support of the weeping fangirls. Sometimes a post like this lasts for a long time, such as the Amy Pond posts which bring back terrible memories for the Whovians.

The final Fangirl post is fanfiction . A fair amount of Fanfiction is innocent and a creative output for fangirls, but the majority is smutty, dirty and X rated.  Returning to the Johnlock ship- these are defiantly the dirtiest-  Benedict Cumberbatch commented on these fanfictions during an Interview with MTV.

"I am startlingly aware of it, I don't go seeking it, but Martin Freeman , who was an absolute luddite on the first series, suddenly came back from New Zealand having done a little radio short drama called "The Hobbit," he came back and he had this beautiful Mac with him and said 'Hey, look at this Tumblr.' And I said, 'What? Tumblr? What?' He knows more about it than I do and he was showing me some of them. Some of it is really racy, un-viewable even on MTV. It's cool.”

“"I suppose my bodily proportions are quite flattering. I'm ripped, doing something I wouldn't normally do with my body, or having done to it, involving Watson,"

Fangirls would pay close attention to the fact he said “Wouldn’t Normally do”. There is a separate page on Fanfiction if you are interested in finding out more.

Fangirls are a major part of Tumblr and indeed, modern society, no matter what you hold against them Tumblr would not be Tumblr without the dirty fanfiction or dash clogging gifs and pictures, God bless the fangirls.
